Mary McLeod Bethune:  The Spirit of a Champion covers acclaimed educator, civil rights champion and national leader,
Mary McLeod Bethune.  In this program you will find out that she battled successfully for an education and later made sure African
American women would get a quality education by founding Bethune College for African girls.  This was one of the first educational facilities for
Africans in America.  A merger later resulted in her school being renamed Bethune-Cookman College.  The college later grew to
educate both African men and women.  You will also be exposed to Bethune’s battle against the frequent lynchings during her era.
Bethune is one of the founders of African education in America and a leader in setting standards of excellence in American education.
